When should a panel be assessed?
An older panel is not automatically unsafe, but it should be checked when there is damaged equipment, overheating, poor connections, inadequate residual current device (RCD) protection, insufficient space or incompatibility with new loads.
Reasons to request an inspection
- Overheated breakers or connections;
- Frequent unexplained tripping;
- Damaged enclosure or wooden panel;
- Unlabelled circuits;
- Old or incorrectly rated protection;
- Installation of a wallbox, heat pump or other high-power equipment;
- A power increase or single/three-phase change.
What the work may include
A new enclosure, main switch, circuit breakers, RCDs, surge protection, busbars, terminals, connection checks and circuit labelling. The final solution depends on measurements and the existing installation.
Checks after the work
Depending on scope, checks may include protective-conductor continuity, RCD operation, earth resistance or loop impedance, polarity and circuit condition.
Important: replacing the panel alone does not correct faults in the existing circuits. Any defects found are reported and dealt with separately.
